On the first day of your adventure, you will discover this unique area on foot. You hike along varied forest trails, past viewpoints overlooking the river, and through quiet natural areas where peace and space are at the heart of the experience.
After the hike, you step into your packraft for a journey along the Rur River. From the water, you experience the Eifel in a completely different way: paddling along forested riverbanks, through calm bends in the river, and enjoying the silence of the valley. The combination of hiking and packrafting makes this day active, adventurous, and wonderfully diverse.
The Rur winds its way through one of Germany’s most beautiful natural areas and provides the perfect setting for a true micro-adventure. Along the way, you pass small Eifel villages, historic bridges, and hidden spots that can only be discovered from the water.
On the second day, you venture deeper into Eifel National Park. You follow adventurous hiking trails through dense forests, across scenic ridgelines, and along spectacular viewpoints with panoramic views over the Rur Valley. After the hike, you return to the river for a final packraft section. Let the current guide you as you paddle back towards the finish point—a beautiful ending to two unforgettable days filled with nature, adventure, and relaxation in the German Eifel.

Day 1
Start your adventure on the Rur River! From the charming village of Heimbach, you step into your packraft and gently paddle downstream towards Blens. Along the way, you travel through the stunning Eifel National Park, passing forested hills, impressive rock formations, characteristic stone bridges, and picturesque villages. Enjoy the tranquillity of the water and be amazed by the diverse landscapes that make the Rur River so unique.
After arriving in Blens, it’s time to put on your hiking boots and follow beautiful forest trails and scenic viewpoints back towards Base Camp Heimbach. Along the route, you’ll enjoy panoramic views over the Rur Valley and the untouched nature of Eifel National Park.

Day 2
After a relaxed breakfast, you return to the river for the second part of your adventure. From Blens, you continue paddling downstream towards Abenden, one of the most beautiful sections of the Rur River. Along the way, peaceful river bends, green riverbanks, and impressive natural landscapes create a truly memorable experience.
After arriving in Abenden, you hike back towards Heimbach. To complete your adventure, you can visit the impressive Hengebach Castle, which towers high above Heimbach and offers a stunning view over the Rur Valley. It is the perfect way to finish your two-day adventure with a beautiful combination of nature, history, and outdoor exploration.

Overnight stay at Base Camp Heimbach
A packraft adventure begins and ends in a place where nature and comfort come together: Base Camp Heimbach. This atmospheric location, directly by the water, is the perfect starting point for your journey. You don’t have to bring anything yourself—simply rent a fully equipped tent that will be ready for you upon arrival. Everything is included: a comfortable mattress, warm sleeping bag, pillow, small table, relaxing camping chairs, and a lantern for the evening hours.
Base Camp Heimbach is located in the heart of nature, far away from the hustle and bustle. Wake up to the peaceful sound of the river and start your day with a view of the gently flowing water. This is where the true outdoor experience comes to life, without compromising on comfort.
